TFW: Day 1

I'm in Japan for friggin' fashion week! Ellen and I were given the amazing opportunity of working with Maybelline for Tokyo Fashion Week and we have been counting down the days. It's all so surreal. It's my first time out of the country in over a decade and I feel Japan is definitely the best place to break that streak. We've only been here for 24 hours, but it's been a crazy and amazing day.

We got in Sunday evening around 11 pm after a 12 hour flight. We met up with Maybelline reps and had a meeting to discuss our itinerary for the week. Got back to our room pretty late and didn't get much sleep because of jet lag. We probably slept about 3 hours each and had to wake up at 7 am to get ready for our first day festivities. We did so much all in one day, it all seems like so long ago. We started off getting breakfast at Bills in Harajuku. They have, hands down, the fluffiest ricotta pancakes ever. After breakfast, we walked around and shopped a bit. I'm an avid Line chat user, so we definitely had to stop by the Line store. Everything is so irresistibly cute.

After some shopping, we made our way over to Hikarie Hall where all the runway shows are being held. We popped in backstage to catch how Maybelline was being used for Todd Snyder's runway show. The female models were modeling menswear, so the make up was super light, simple and natural. After snapping some backstage footage, we were sent to get some street snaps of our looks for various magazines and style blogs. I should add that Ellen and I have never attended any fashion weeks anywhere before, so all of this is so new but exciting to us. We then made our way to lunch at McDonald's. One of my favorite things to do when I travel is visit other McDonald's to check out what items they offer on their menu that we don't have in the U.S. I ordered the ebi filet, which is basically like a filet-o-fish but made with shrimp. It was actually so good, and their bread is extra soft.  Not gonna lie, I'm pretty disappointed in American McDonald's right now. After lunch, we headed back to Hikarie to see Todd Snyder's show, which I loved. A lot of white, navy blue, and that dark camo green that's trending right now. The second show we caught today was for Atsushi Nakashima. His show was extremely futuristic and well presented. The entire collection consisted only of the colors black, white and red and was geometrically color blocked in every way. After that show, we went to grab some sushi for dinner. The restaurant was just like the kind you see on the Travel channel with a touch screen monitor at your table for ordering. Once your order is submitted through the system, your sushi shoots out straight to you on a conveyor belt!

Ellen and I are so overwhelmed by how amazing everything here. Everything is here is just so cute! Everyone here is so sincere, and the system they have down for everything is so eco-friendly. Definitely a culture shock. I can't wait to begin day 2. Catch up with you guys tomorrow!
